indysummers

Some mornings call for quick breakfasts. You might snooze your alarm for a little too long, or take a couple extra minutes in the shower, or just be so busy that you don’t have time to cook up an elaborate stovetop meal. But don’t worry--you don’t need a heaping plate of bacon and eggs to have a delicious, nutritious morning meal.

There are countless breakfast meals that take only minutes to prepare and will keep you full until lunch. Here are some of these breakfast options, so quick to prepare that you’ll be done before you even finish saying “I’m hungry!”.

1. Peanut Butter Toast

Peanut butter toast is not a novel idea. This creamy, crunchy toast is a classic, and it’s pretty easy to see why. Not only is peanut butter a sticky, chewy, flavorful spread of absolute deliciousness, it has tons of health benefits. Peanut butter is a carbohydrate, protein, and fat all in one, providing you with all your macronutrients in one serving. It also has important vitamins and heart benefits, making it just short of a superfood. Plus, spreading peanut butter on a piece of toast takes less than thirty seconds*—*perfect for when you’re running out the door. What might take longer is getting it unstuck from the roof of your mouth, but it’s definitely worth it.

2. Yogurt and Granola

Yogurt and granola is a combo made in health-and-wellness-deliciousness heaven. It’s the perfect mixture of smooth and crunchy, sweet and creamy. Like peanut butter, yogurt is chock-full of nutrients. Yogurt contains calcium, there to make your bones stronger, and has been found to reduce the risk of heart disease. In fact, yogurt provides pretty much all the nutrients your body needs to be healthy. Additionally, granolas with high oat, nut, and seed content also provide nutrients, such as fiber, protein, and fat. And the best part of all? You could argue that eating yogurt and granola actually saves time, as it takes only seconds to prepare and minutes to enjoy.

3. Fresh Berries

Berries are known for being some of the healthiest foods out there, so why not turn them into a quick and easy breakfast food? Berries are loaded with antioxidants, can help improve blood sugar, are high in fiber, provide countless vitamins and minerals, can help lower levels of cholesterol, and help fight inflammation. Eating a plate of sweet and delicious strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries will not only satisfy your taste buds, but it’s a way to start your day that you will feel good about.

4. Avocado Toast

Avocado has become all the craze nowadays; you can find photos of aesthetically pleasing avocado toast all over social media. But avocado toast tastes just as beautiful as it looks, and it’s incredibly nutritious. Avocados contain twenty different vitamins and minerals, which means it’s one food that accomplishes lots of tasks. They are also full of healthy fats, which is good for the heart and has been shown to reduce inflammation. And if that’s not enough, it has even been suggested that avocados help prevent cancer. Plus, the smooth, creamy texture of an avocado is so yummy, especially when topped with a bit of salt, pepper, and sriracha sauce. You can’t go wrong with avocado toast, so weave it into your quick breakfast routine*—*you won’t be disappointed!

5. Overnight Oats

Overnight oats are probably one of my favorite recipes on this list because it’s simple and easy to make. Think of overnight oats as a personal and portable casserole. All you’ll need is: plain oats, greek yogurt, jam, fresh fruit, and milk. In a small mason jar you’ll want to layer the oats and milk yogurt, jam, and fruit. You can seal it up and it’s ready to go for tomorrow morning. I love overnight oats because you can easily customize the recipe to what you like and there are an infinite amount of variations. Personally, I like to add a probiotic or extra protein. Here is a coupon code for Morning Complete, my preferred morning probiotic that helps me throughout the day and promote wellness.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But it’s also often forced to be your quickest one as you’re running out the door to work or school or an appointment, and it might seem difficult to eat a healthy meal in a short amount of time. But the truth is there are hundreds of delicious, nutritious, quick-and-easy breakfast foods that will thrill your body and your tastebuds, and you can start with these four.
