If you are having trouble with getting your child to eat healthier, you are certainly not alone. Many parents struggle with picky eaters and as a result, it is sometimes difficult for your child to get the nutrients that they need for growth and development. Here are some tips for making sure your little one has a balanced diet, no matter how picky of an eater they are.

Smoothies

One of the best ways to sneak vegetables into your child's diet is to blend them together with fruit, milk, and yogurt into a delicious smoothie. Greens such as spinach and kale are very dense with nutrients but, when freeze dried, do not give any flavor in the smoothie. You can use plenty of fruits that your child enjoys to mask the vegetables as well, making them think that they are getting a treat. If your child is struggling with getting his or her daily calorie allotment, try using whole milk and full fat yogurt for extra calories that will still benefit their nutrition. Another great option for smoothies is to freeze them into popsicles for an after school snack or a frozen treat during hot summer days. You can even incorporate healthy fats, such as avocado.

Superfood Supplements

Because of our busy lifestyles and the evolution of options available, especially for children, it is more difficult for children to get their daily servings of vegetables and fruits. A supplement that contains dense nutrition, such as chlorella for kids, can be a wonderful option that bridges the gap and brings your children's nutritional intake up to where it should be. Chlorella is a green superfood supplement that contains many of the most common vitamin and minerals that are reported as deficiencies in people of all ages. Whole Foods

With the growing amount of processed food options available, whole foods are becoming a rarity. One of the most well-known whole foods is whole grains, which are usually a choice for most bread-based products, as well as items like cereal. There are many easy ways that you can purchase whole foods without sacrificing your budget. For instance, try visiting your local farmer's market to stock up on produce for the week, which usually comes at a cheaper cost and much fresher than grocery stores or supermarkets. Also, buy organic whenever possible. This prevents harmful chemicals from pesticides and genetically modified foods from impacting your child's health. Making easy switches, such as regular pasta for whole grain, can go a long way in transitioning to a diet consisting of more whole foods and less processed foods.

Healthy Snacks

One of the challenges of raising children is finding snacks that they enjoy, but that also benefit their health and well being. You do not have to compromise on flavor to provide your children with nutrition in their school lunch or in between meals. Some simple snacks to have on-hand, either in the fridge or the pantry, include cheese cubes, hard boiled eggs, nuts or trail mix, yogurt cups, and fruit with peanut butter or other healthy toppings, like granola. Even popular snacks like popcorn can be less unhealthy, by purchasing a low butter alternative and sprinkling it with garlic or sea salt. Be sure to keep a variety of snacks stocked so that your children are not tempted to consume junk food and will have an appetite for much healthier treats to munch on when they get home from school or a playdate.

Encourage Hydration

Water is a huge part of your children's diet that often gets overlooked on the assumption that they are consuming enough when they are thirsty. However, it is vital to monitor your child's water intake and make sure they are receiving proper hydration to support growth. Look out for common symptoms of dehydration, such as fatigue and cracked or chapped lips. To combat dehydration, be sure to send your child out to play or to school with a reusable water bottle, so they always have a source of hydration, even away from the playground drinking fountain. If your child is struggling to drink water or does not find it appetizing, you can purchase a bottle that allows for fruit infusion. This will give a slight flavor to the water without turning it into a sugary drink, so your child will still be receiving the proper amount of hydration.

Even if you can see that your child is having trouble consuming the proper foods to support growth and development, you do not have to worry. With these tips, you are guaranteed to find foods they will love and provide them with plenty of nutrients.
